(Meet Me In St. Louis is on, the roommates are out of town, and I've been wearing university sweatpants all day: it's time.)

Tell me about a story I haven't written, and I'll give you between one and three sentences from that story.

excellent decision.

"You're couch is a piece of shit, brother," Oliver says.

"S'what you get, taking my advice," Sam tells him. Still, it's not so bad to have someone else around, another voice yelling at the tv when there's a game on. It's not that Sam's lonely or anything, it's just-- he doesn't know. He's getting older.

("In case you slip in the shower," Oliver says. Sam punches his shoulder.)

WELL FANCY SEEING YOU HERE.

The one where it's only the second or third time they're riding together, and she's trying real earnestly to Get To Know Him.

(Also, that movie is the BEST. "The ice man saw a drunkard get shot, and the blood spurted out three feet!" means "Merry Christmas" in the Underground RR house.)

SHOCKING, ISN'T IT.

(It's entirely possible I've been running around my house singing "The Trolley Song" at the top of my lungs.)

"I mean--" She's got every single part of her uniform on, like every rookie in the history of ever, long-sleeved duty shirt even though it's a thousand fucking degrees in the shade. The hair at the back of her neck is damp, something Sam is studiously Not Noticing. "How was, you know. Working Guns and Gangs?"

"Quieter," Sam says, real pointed. Which works for another two blocks, then:

"Trained any rookies before?"

The one where Andy learns what happened after Sam left the Penny with Gail.

She's doesn't care--jesus christ, she does not care--but man, Gail's just a giant hypocrite, isn't she? "It's our first week, Andy." "He's your T.O., Andy."

(Although: "You can have him," she'd said. She freaking told Gail that, she did, so there's really no reason to--

Whatever. She doesn't care.)

(It is a WONDERFUL movie.)

They do the whole thing, this time around: get a real tree because she insists (Sam it doesn't count if it's fake), stand nervously at the edges of Zoe and Oliver's Christmas party. (Well--Andy's nervous, Sam's ridden this particular rodeo before; with Corinne, not that it matters.) They've managed to beg off every other year, Sarah in St. Catherines or out to dinner with Andy's dad, but now that they're married Zoe insists.

"Big leagues now," Sam murmurs in Andy's ear, handing her a glass of eggnog. She worms her hand into his, hangs on.

You knew this was going to happen: THE ONE WITH THE ALICIA/KALINDA MYSTICAL FREG.

I SHOULD HAVE SEEN THIS COMING, IT'S TRUE.

It's a testament to Kalinda's reputation that no one says anything. Even after the sixth month, when she's all rounded belly under these stretchy sweater dresses she keeps buying from god knows where (Alicia certainly never looked like that in her maternity clothes) the interns barely risk second glances in the hallway.

"I'm pretty sure if you went into labour," Alicia muses, "no one would be brave enough to call 911."

Kalinda flicks through her notebook. "Which is why I don't intend to give birth at our place of work."

And at that moment, Alicia is halfway-convinced Kalinda has the ability to make the mysteries of life bend to her will.
